Health Expenditures Overview (2010 data)
In 2010, 7.8 billion US dollars were spent on health care in Peru. This was financed 98% domestically and 2% by funding from abroad. Per capita spending was $269. This was paid for through government expenditures (54%), out-of-pocket household spending (39%) and other sources (7%).
Government Financing
The Peruvian government spends relatively little compared to other countries in the region, with total government expenditures at 19% of country GDP. The share of government spending allocated to health is comparable to that offered by governments in the region, at 19%. However, actual government expenditures on health were low, with only 3% of 2010 government expenditures going towards health.
