Site Visits
While in Peru (Lima & Cuzco), we will visit the following organizations to conduct primary research on Health in Peru. This page currently reflects our planned site visits, with very brief ideas of what we hope to gain to help us focus our questions while on the visits.
We will speak with a consultant from PwC to learn about healthcare consulting. We will attempt to gain information on the sorts of healthcare projects that PwC takes on in Peru in both the public and private sector. Our goal is to gain insight into challenges facing healthcare organizations in Peru today.
At our visit to BCP, one of Peru's top investment banks, we learned more about the current trends in the healthcare industry as well as issues faced by businesses.
Private investment firms have begun to take an interest in playing in the healthcare industry. Firms such as Pacifico (owned by BCP) and Rimak Insurance have begun to vertically integrate by offering both insurance and owning associated hospitals and clinics. These companies believe that they can manage costs of healthcare administration more efficiently than the government system.
BCP also informed us of the weak political institutions in Peru. An outcome of this issue is that the number of days required to start a business in the country is one of the highest in the region. This aligns with what physicians we spoke to said; Starting a business in Peru is timely and difficult.
